Christmas Light Installation Cost Calculator
This calculator multiplies your roofline footage by the per-foot rates this site publishes for Volusia County: $5 to $14 for full-service seasonal, most jobs $7 to $9, with an $899 starting package. Install-only labor is $2 to $5, and permanent LED is $18 to $32 one time. Palms add $75 to $300 each.
Run the numbers for your house
Three inputs. Linear feet of roofline you want lit, one story or two, and how many palms or trees go in the display. The results table updates when you press the button.
Your estimated ranges
Showing the worked default: a 150-foot one-story roofline with no palms. Change the inputs above to run your own.
| Product | Estimated range | How it was calculated |
|---|---|---|
| Full-service seasonal, where most jobs land | $1,050 to $1,350 | Feet times $7 to $9, the band most packages fall inside. |
| Full-service seasonal, full published band | $899 to $2,100 | Feet times $5 to $14. Lights, design, install, in-season repairs, January takedown, and storage included. |
| Install-only labor, your own lights | $300 to $750 | Feet times $2 to $5. No lights, no design, no maintenance, no takedown, no storage. |
| Permanent LED system, one time | $2,700 to $4,800 | Feet times $18 to $32. Track, modules, controller, and install. You own it. |
| Permanent, spread over 8 to 10 seasons | $270 to $600 | One-time cost divided by 10 seasons at the low end and 8 at the high end. An accounting view, not a yearly bill. |
| Matching published package: One-story home, roofline only | $899 to $1,400 | Your footage sits inside this published package, so the package price is the tighter check. |
Any seasonal figure below $899 is shown as $899, the published starting package. Setup, design, and a trip do not shrink below that.
How the calculator turns roofline feet into a dollar range
Each row in the results is one published rate multiplied by the footage you enter. Nothing is weighted, blended, or adjusted behind the scenes. A 150-foot roofline times the $5 to $14 full-service band is $750 to $2,100, and the $750 end is lifted to the $899 starting package because no seasonal job on this site is priced below it.
The rows are kept apart on purpose. Full-service seasonal, install-only labor, and permanent LED are three different purchases, and the reason online numbers seem to disagree is that they get averaged together. The cost per foot page explains why each product carries its own rate. The calculator just applies those rates to one house at a time.
Worked examples on two common Volusia rooflines
A 150-foot one-story front with no palms comes back at $1,050 to $1,350 in the typical band, inside the published one-story package of $899 to $1,400. Install-only labor on the same footage is $300 to $750 before anyone buys a light. Permanent LED is $2,700 to $4,800 once, or about $270 to $600 per season if you spread it across 8 to 10 years.
A 200-foot two-story roofline comes back at $1,400 to $1,800 in the typical band, inside the published two-story package of $1,200 to $1,900. Permanent LED on that footage is $3,600 to $6,400 one time. Add three wrapped palms to the seasonal job and the tree line is $225 to $900, which is how a roofline-plus-palms display ends up in the $1,600 to $2,500 package on the cost guide.
| Example home | Seasonal, typical band | Permanent LED, one time |
|---|---|---|
| 150 ft, one story, no palms | $1,050 to $1,350 | $2,700 to $4,800 |
| 200 ft, two stories, no palms | $1,400 to $1,800 | $3,600 to $6,400 |
| 200 ft, two stories, three palms | $1,625 to $2,700 | $3,600 to $6,400 plus palms quoted separately |
What the calculator cannot see from three inputs
It does not know your roof. Barrel tile, a steep pitch that cannot be walked, and second-story peaks all push a job toward the top of the $5 to $14 band, and a walkable low-pitch shingle eave sits toward the bottom. If you picked two stories and your roof is tile, read the top half of each range as the likely half.
It does not know your add-ons beyond palms. Column wraps, entry garland, wreaths, window frames, and walkway accents are quoted per item. Each driver that moves a written quote, with a number attached, is on what affects Christmas light installation cost. A permanent quote also carries electrical work and controller choices the per-foot rate does not show.
Measuring roofline footage for a better estimate
Count only the edges that will carry light. For most homes that is the front fascia, the rake edges of each street-facing gable, and any garage run you want included. Side elevations nobody sees from the road usually stay dark, and leaving them out of the number is the most common way to bring an estimate down honestly.
Gables are where homeowners undercount. A rake edge climbs on the diagonal, so a gable 20 feet wide on a steep 12/12 pitch carries about 28 feet of light up one side and down the other, not 20. Satellite tools and a tape on the gutter line both work. Once you have a number, put the same figure in a quote request so the written price and this estimate are measuring the same thing.
Why a Volusia calculator gives higher numbers than national ones
National calculators mostly price labor to hang lights the homeowner already owns, which is why they land near $300 to $450 for an average house. That is the install-only row here, and on a 150-foot roofline it is the same order of magnitude. The full-service row is higher because it includes the commercial C9 lights, the January takedown, and storage.
None of the rates on this page are new. They come from the package table on the cost guide, the per-foot conversions on cost per foot, and the footage-keyed averages on average Christmas light installation cost. The permanent rates match the permanent lighting cost guide. If any of those pages change, this calculator changes with them.
Common questions
On the rates this calculator uses, full-service seasonal installation in Volusia County runs $5 to $14 per linear foot of roofline, with most jobs at $7 to $9 and an $899 starting package. Labor only, where someone hangs lights you already own, is $2 to $5 per foot. Enter your footage above to see both ranges for your own house.
Run 200 feet through this calculator and full-service seasonal comes back at $1,000 to $2,800 across the full published band, with $1,400 to $1,800 where most jobs land. Install-only labor on the same 200 feet is $400 to $1,000, and a permanent LED system is $3,600 to $6,400 one time. On a two-story home, 200 feet sits inside the published $1,200 to $1,900 roofline package.
The published two-story package is $1,200 to $1,900 for roofline only, written for about 150 to 250 feet. On the per-foot rates, a 200-foot two-story roofline lands at $1,400 to $1,800 in the typical band. If the roof is also barrel tile or too steep to walk, pick two stories above and read the top half of each range as the likely half.
Yes, though this calculator prices installation only, so electricity is not in any of its rows. The site's published worked example puts a 150-foot permanent LED run at about $1.36 a month, against roughly $28.50 for the same roofline in 7-watt incandescent C9s, at six hours a night and 15.1 cents per kWh. Check the rated wattage on the product being installed to estimate your own.
